  1. Meeting was started at 6:10 by President Charles Dicks.
  2. Monica Reza and Vivek Sharma, owners of The Reserve welcomed us to their establishment and told us about her restaurant and future plans.
  3. Savannah Nordstrom, farm coordinator for The Shed, shared with us the origin and mission of the Shed.
    1. Food is all sourced from an area of 400miles from Dallas
    2. Education is part of the mission of the Shed, and they do tours and school group visits to teach them about farming
  4. Abby (last name), a representative  from Bonton Farms (https://bontonfarms.org) talked about food deserts, and shared that in 2018 Texas had 88 food deserts. The goal of Bonton Farms is to teach people about farming and natural food, citing stats that say people in food deserts have higher rates of obesity, heart problems and other diseases. “Investing in the soil yields healthy plants; Investing in the soul yields healthy people.”
  5. Representative Jesse Moreno talked about plans to make the neighborhood more walkable, including a Marilla St makeover that will include LED lighting upgrades to increase safety around the neighborhood.
  6. Jefferson Braga, from Braga Farms DFW, talked to us about his farm in South Irving, where they grow high quality greens, persimmon and more. For more information check their website https://bragafarmsdfw.com/
  7. Finally, Charles Dicks told the people in attendance that at our next meeting we will be learning about Harwood and Carpenter Parks, directly from one of the developers. Location for that meeting to be determined.
  8. After the official meeting, we were treated to delicious food from The Reserve, and a good time was had by all.
